On 13th July 2023, Aldermanic (i.e. Leader of the ward) elections were held in the Castle Baynard Ward.
The City of London Corporation runs the Square Mile. Not only does the Corporation look after local services such as roads, rubbish collection, planning and the police - they also support and promote City businesses and ensure this remains one of the best places to live, work and visit in the world. The City is divided into 25 wards, small electoral districts, each with a number of Common Councillors and one Alder. There are 125 elected members of the City of London Corporation in total, who look after local services in the City and beyond, and serve as the representative voice of City businesses here and around the world. There are two kinds of elected officials in the City of London Corporation: 100 Common Councillors and 25 Alders. Together, they form the Common Council, which is the City of London Corporation's main-decision making body. Both can then join committees that oversee an incredibly diverse range of areas in the City and beyond - from finance and planning to cultural centres like the Barbican and Hampstead Heath.
Martha Grekos has been elected as Alderwoman, for the ward of Castle Baynard. She topped the polls in the ward, standing as an independent candidate against six other candidates, winning with 173 votes.
